Not really in hiding. BUT I’M STILL HERE. I’m alive! Wait… did anyone notice I was gone?
It’s been a long, long time since I posted, so I thought I’d give you all a bit of an update on where I’m at and what I’m doing. I intend to get posting again more frequently because I miss it!
In January of 2017 I travelled over to New Zealand and have been living in the beautiful, spectacular Queenstown for the past year and a bit. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE.
For those who haven’t ventured to this side of the earth, let me tell you: New Zealand is truly special. From the seemingly endless, breathtaking mountains, lakes and glaciers of the South Island to the tropical coves and geothermal wonderlands of the North Island, this is a stunning and unique place to be.
‘Cause this is a film blog, I can’t not talk about the movie locations situated here. The recent Mission Impossible movie for example, with those jaw-dropping helicopter scenes shot over the sweeping fiordland of Milford Sound (also the home to the unfortunate crash landing in Alien: Covenant).
The snowcapped peaks of The Remarkables mountain range are featured in a number of blockbusters including X Men Origins: Wolverine, Vertical Limit and The Water Horse.
None other than Isengard itself and many of Middle Earth’s destinations are right here amongst the regions of Queenstown. It’s a Lord of the Rings fanatic’s paradise here! Learning all about why Peter Jackson chose New Zealand as a shooting location for the world famous movies has been super interesting. I’ve been on a number of LOTR tours and been lucky enough to explore the WETA workshop!
More on all of that later.
Some of the cool things I’ve been up to in the past year and a half include:
- Bungy jumping the Nevis (eek!)
- Skydiving over the beautiful Lake Wanaka
- Trying (and failing) at skiing
- Experiencing the awe-inspiring glowworm caves of Waitomo
- Meeting a whole range of interesting people and gaining so many valuable friendships
- Turning my dislike of cats into a like of cats (I’ll explain another time properly)
- Lots of flights and lots of movies on flights (teaser)
Anyway, there’s a quick update with some photos below for you to have a sneak peek.

Horse Trekking in Isengard
I’ll be doing a couple more posts in the foreseeable future so please stay tuned. Let me know what YOU’VE been up to in the comments!
Oh you have been missed around here. Nice to know you’re safe and sound.

Good to see that you are still up to all your usual antics of cramming everything into life. Glad to hear you like NZ. I have a good friend who went to live on the South Island decades ago, and is still there. I haven’t seen him since, but we keep in touch.
What have I been doing?
Er, Dog walking, Blogging, (repeat…) 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Oh nice, do you know whereabouts on the South Island? It’s very cold at the moment.
I’m drafting a post about villains we love to hate in the movies. Any suggestions?

It’s close to Christchurch, something like Rangioria, I believe.
Villains we love to hate? I tend to think most villains are not hateful at all, and often the best thing in a film. 🙂
Cruella de Vil in ‘101 Dalmatians’.
Alan Rickman as Gruber in ‘Die Hard’.
Michael Caine in ‘Mona Lisa’.
Darth Vader in ‘Star Wars’.
Robert Patrick as Terminator 2.
Anthony Hopkins in any ‘Hannibal’ film.
Gary Oldman in ‘Leon’ and ‘True Romance’
Christopher Walken in ‘True Romance’.
Orson Welles in ‘Touch of Evil’.
Rutger Hauer in ‘Blade Runner’.
Marlon Brando in ‘Apocalypse Now’.
Klaus Kinski in ‘Aguirre, Wrath of God’.
Judith Anderson in ‘Rebecca’.
Barbara Stanwyck in ‘Double Indemnity’.
Ben Kingsley in ‘Sexy Beast’. (One of the best)
Kathleen Byron in ‘Black Narcissus’.
Let me know if you need any more. 🙂

Oh, thankyou! I’m really glad you enjoyed reading it 🙂 I want to post more about how cool New Zealand is and definitely more about the LOTR side of things.
You will LOVE it if you come here in 2020! It is an expensive place to be but it really is worth it. You’ll make memories that will last a lifetime and the scenery is just unforgettable. As a movie fan, you’ll undoubtedly love the LOTR tours as well! Keep up the saving 🙂 happy to help with any tips if you need it.

A girl after my own heart! Hubby and I will be flying over to New Zealand on 21st November where we hope to make a fresh start and fingers crossed eventually get visas to live there. We’ve been out a few times now and can’t wait to get back to Queenstown! Hey if you know anyone in the film industry over there who is looking for a highly skilled carpenter to make filmsets 😉 My husband Rob is currently in the UK making a film set for a tv programme and it’s something he’d love to continue doing out there. P.S have you been to the open air hot tubs in Queenstown yet? 😍😍😍😍

Oh wow!! That’s fantastic to hear, bet you’re itching to get back over here. It’s an addictive place, right?! I’ll keep my eyes and ears peeled for some work for your husband, although I’m pretty sure he will land on his feet here because it’s movie set galore. I’ll have a look around and get back to you.
The Onsen hot pools! Yes, they’re dreamy! Very relaxing experience 🙂 November’s a good time to come, the brink of summer too.
